About
The Makerhood was conceived by young entrepreneurs Owen and Hannah Stolarczyk when they were just nine and four years old. The kids had the vision to provide all children around the world with a STEAM-learning makerspace on every corner.
After undergoing an IDEO design-thinking challenge to develop a prototype and converted our 500 sq. ft. garage into a neighborhood makerspace. Why the garage? Well, it’s not only available space, it seems appropriate given the number of innovative companies, bands, scientists, etc., who got their start in one.
The goal of The Makerhood is to foster learning, community, and collaborative play while building skills in science, technology, engineering, art and math. We host open-sessions in our makerspace during the summer months and on occasion during the school year. Price of entry covers the cost of supplies.
Past challenges have included a Tech Take Apart Challenge; Recycled Book Art Challenge; Cardboard Creature Challenge. Programs are child-led; adult supervised. Most are focused on grades K-8.
By creating a ‘third-space’ in a safe, familiar, trusted environment (just a bike or scooter ride away), kids build confidence and community, while having fun. Similar to how Little Free Library provides curbside book lending, our longer-term vision for The Makerhood is to encourage families with garages in neighborhoods around the world to MAKE space for play.
Supply donations are always welcome. Check-out our Wish List.
